The Aaloo gosht or meat curry with potato is one of the recommended Pakistan cuisine. This is the first Pakistani dish that I tried to make from the beginning. I have to special thank to my husband’s sisters who guided me for the recipe. This curry probably takes time to cook but you will wonder about the taste afterward. It’s best to serve with white rice but it can be served with roti or naan bread too.
- Goat meat/ lamb with/without bones 700 g
- 2 medium onions, thin sliced
- 1 big tomato, chopped
- 3 medium potatoes, cut in big chunks
- Coriander powder 1 tsp
- Salt 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder ½ tsp
- Garam masala powder ½ tsp
- 1 lemon zest
- Green cardamom 3 pots
- 5 cloves
- 10 black pepper corns
- Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
- Olive oil/ cooking oil 3 tbsp
- 5 fresh green chilies
- Water 3 cups
- Coriander leaves and green chilies for garnishing
How to cook
- Bring meat, onion slices, chopped tomato, salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cardamom pots, cloves, black pepper corns and ginger garlic paste to the pressure cooker. Squeeze a zest of lemon and add a cup of water. Cover, bring to high heat and cook under pressure for about 7 minutes.
- Cool down to reduce the pressure, open the lid and keep cooking over medium heat until water is evaporated.
- Add oil and keep cooking until oil is separated from the gravy.
- Stir in potato chunks, add another 2 cups of water, cover and cook about 15-20 minutes until potato is done.
- Add chopped green chilies and garam masala powder and keep cooking for another 10 minutes over low heat.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and green chilies. Serve with white rice or roti or naan bread as your choice.
I hope you enjoy with my recipe.
