Lemon and Lime Granita

Granita is a dessert common in Italy and typically made from fruit, water and a simple syrup. This lemon and lime based granita is easy to make and refreshing. I find that it goes well as the end to a summer dinner and also to highly spiced meals, cleansing the pallet and leaving your mouth feeling fresh and clean.

4 SERVINGS

  • 2¼ cups water
  • 1¼ cups sugar
  • ½ fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice

Combine water and sugar in small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Cool. Mix in lemon and lime juices. Pour into shallow pan. Freeze until mixture is frozen, stirring frequently with fork, about 6 hours. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Keep frozen.)

Using fork, scrape surface of granita to form icy crystals. Scoop crystals into dessert glasses and serve.
